HJ - ERROR CORREKTION + AI

 A mai nap nagy részét Dominikkal töltöttük, aki az MI által támogatott "error correction" (hibajavítás) rejtelmeibe próbált bevezetni minket. Két módszert mutatott meg nekünk, a "mistake mirror"-t és a "side by side" módszert. 

Az mistake mirror lényege az, hogy a tanulók anyanyelvét hívjuk segítségül a hibák felismertetéséhez. Vegyünk mondjuk 5 angol mondatot tipikus igeragozási hibákkal. Majd először mutassuk meg a tanulóknak ugyanezeket a mondatokat az anyanyelvükön, ugyanazokkal a nyelvi hibákkal. Párokban javíttassuk ki azokat, majd kapják meg a hibás angol mondatokat, amiket szintén javítsanak ki.  Ezután azt a kérdést beszéltük meg, hogy segíti-e őket, ha anyanyelven is látják a hibákat, illetve mik ennek a módszernek a korlátai. Dominik a mondatokat valamennyi résztvevő nyelvén egy MI programmal generálta. Érdekes volt látni, hogy ez a technika rokon nyelvek esetén remekül működött, de a magyar nyelv annyira különbözik, hogy itt a MI fordítás teljesen más hibákat hozott ki, mint amik az eredeti angol nyelvű szövegben voltak. A promtok (mesterséges intelligenciának adott utasítások) precízebb megfogalmazása azonban segíthet abban, hogy magyar nyelven is működő feladatot készítsünk. Másik lehetőség, hogy egy kicsit megdolgoztatjuk az agyunkat, fantáziánkat és magunktól gyártjuk le a magyar nyelvű hibákat. 😉 

We spent most of today with Dominik, who tried to introduce us to the mysteries of AI-supported "error correction". He showed us two methods, the "mistake mirror" and the "side by side" method.

The idea behind the mistake mirror is to use the learners' mother tongue to help them identify errors. Let's take 5 English sentences with typical errors of grammar. Then, first show the learners the same sentences in their mother tongue with the same mistakes. In pairs, have them correct them, and then give them the incorrect English sentences to correct as well.  We then discussed whether it helps them to see the mistakes in their mother tongue and what the limitations of this method are. Dominik generated the sentences in all participants' languages using an AI program. It was interesting to see that this technique worked fine for related languages, but Hungarian is so different that here the AI translation produced completely different errors than those in the original English text. However, a more precise formulation of the promts (instructions given to the AI) may help to produce a task that works in Hungarian. Another option is to exercise our brains and imagination a little and create mistakes in Hungarian by ourselves.😉

Második feladatként (side by side módszer) ugyanazt a Teneriféről szóló rövid szöveget kapták a párok. de mint kiderült mindegyikben hibák voltak elrejtve, mégpedig különbözőek. Fel kellett egymásnak olvasnunk a mondatokat úgy, hogy a másik ne lássa a mi szövegünket. A cél az volt, hogy hallás után felfedezzük, hogy a másik mondatában hol van a hiba. Utána megint megbeszéltük, hogy miért alkalmas hibajavításra ez a típusú feladat, a tanulók milyen készségeit tudjuk vele fejleszteni, mik lehetnek a módszer korlátai. Természetesen Dominik itt is az MI-t hívta segítségül a feladat elkészítéséhez. 

Nekem mindkét módszer tetszett, biztos ki fogom őket próbálni.

As a second task (side by side method), the pairs were given the same short text about Tenerife. but as it turned out, they all had hidden errors, and different ones. We had to read each other the sentences without the other person seeing our text. The aim was to discover, by listening, where the error was in the other's sentence. Afterwards we discussed again why this type of task is suitable for error correction, what skills the pupils could develop with it, and what the limitations of the method might be. Of course Dominik used the AI to help him with this task.

I liked both methods and will definitely try them out.
