Madeira CsT – Day 05

 Ma volt az utolsó nap, amikor időm és lehetőségem volt egésznapos túrát tenni, ezúttal Madeira nyugati részén. A holnap estém már kötött programmal telik, hiszen a továbbképzés szervezője egy vacsorával és egy nyitóeseménnyel kedveskedik nekünk. Azért mondom, hogy nekünk, mert holnaptól egy nagyon kedves meglepetés útitársam is lesz, aki reményem szerint nemrég szállt le a madeirai reptéren. Hétfőtől elkezdődik a tanfolyamom érdemi része is, ami egészen a hazaindulásig tart. Az órákról és az ott tanultakról is be fogok számolni, de a további kalandokról is, mert a délutánok és az esték azért még nagyrészt szabadok maradnak.

Todays was my last opportunity to take a whole day tour on Madeira, this time discovering the eastern half of the island. I already have a scheduled program for tomorrow night, since the organisation hosting our course has invited us to an opening ceremony with a welcome dinner. I’m saying „to us”, because from tomorrow on, I will have a surprise travel companion, who I’m hopefull, that has just landed ont he airport of Madeira. From Monday, classes will be starting, and will last till the days of my return flight. I will give a detaileg report of the course, and what have I learned, but also about my further adventures, as in the afternoons and evenings I’m still free to fulfill my pre-planed program.

A mai túra célja a sziget keleti felének felfedezése volt. Rögtön az első állomáshelyen egy ismerős helyszín következett, ahol már egyszer jártam, méghozzá a Pico Arieiro. Bár nem amiatt fizettem be erre az útra, hogy újra eljöhessek Madeira harmadik legmagasabb, 1818 méteres hegyégre, mégsem bántam, hogy ott vagyok. Egyfelől a látvány újra lenyűgöző volt. Másfelől egy olyan részét is megnézhettük a helynek, amit korábban nem jártam be, mivel szerdán egyenesen a Pico Ruivóhoz vezető utat céloztuk meg. Megerőltető sem volt a dolog mivel busszal jöttünk fel, és legalább a távolból láthattam azt a nyaktörő hegyi ösvényt, amin korábban végig haladtam. Az út pedig még bőven tartogatott érdekességeket a későbbiekben.

The aim of todays tour is to explore the eastern part of the island. At our first stop I have arrived to a familiar location: Pico Arieiro. I did not pay for this tour to come again to Madeira’s third highest peak (1818 meters above sea level), but still did not mind it, for multiple reasons. On one hand, the sight was again amazing! On the other hand, I had time to explore parts, that I’ve previously missed, because last time we were headed straight at the path to Pico Ruivo. The program wasn’t very hard either, because we have reached the peak by bus. At least I could see the path I have taken on Wednesday, and which has caused the death of so many hikers before. Also the bus tour had still had some more curiosities later.

A kép kissé homályos lett, de szükség volt a nagyításra, hogy legalább kis pontokként láthatók legyenek azok a hegymászók, akik ott mennek végig a hegy gerincén, ahol pár napja még én centiztem ki minden egyes lépésemet / The picture is a bit blur, but there was a need to zoom-in to see those people at least as tiny pixels, who took the very same path on the mountain ridhe, which I did, calculating all of my steps to maximum precision

Ezt a hegy oldalán bazaltkockákból épített "iglut" az 1860-as években jégveremként használták, és reggelente innen szállították a jeget a partmenti városok villáiba és szállodáiba / This "igloo" on the mountain side was built of basalt cubes, and was used as an ice storage in the 1860's. Fresh ice was delivered early in the morning to the villas and hotels of the coastal towns

Innen egy hegyvölgyi falucskába, Ribeiro Frioba mentünk tovább, ahol egy különlegesen szép pisztrángfarm meglátogatása után elfogyaszthattunk egy pohárral Madeira emblematikus italából, a ponchából, ami tulajdonképpen a puncs helyi változata.

From here on we went to Ribeiro Frio, a lovely village located in a valley surrounded by mountains. Here we have visited a strikingly beautifull trout farm, and also had the chance to drink a glass of Madeira’s emblematic alcoholic drink, poncha, which is actually a local version of punch.

Madeirán az utóbbi időben visszaesett a cukorgyártás, így a cukornád termőterülete is csökkent. Mivel a banán felvevőpiaca is véges, emiatt rengeteg helyen komplett teraszok maradtak parlagon. A maradék cukornád ültetvényeknek viszont még stabil piacuk van, mert a rumgyártásra még mindig nagy az igény. Madeira hagyományos italának, a ponchának a fő alapanyaga a rum. A klasszikus poncha rumot, frissen facsart citromot és mézet tartalmaz, az alkholfoka pedig körülbelül 20-25%. Újabban a ponchát készítik narancsból és passiógyümölcsből is / The sugarproduction is in a recession recently, so the cultivating area of sugar cane has also decreased. This has resulted in entire terraces reamaining fallow. However the rest of the sugar cane plantations has a stable market, becuase there is still a high demand on rum. The ingredients of poncha, the traditional alcholic drink of Madeira are classicaly rum, freshly gained lemonjuice and honey. It's alcohol content by volume is about 20 to 25 percent. Recently poncha is also often made of orange and passion fruit

Marco, a túravezetőnk rutinos és jókedélyű fickó volt, aki pontosan tudta, hogy mivel lehet a turisták kedvére tenni. Az út során több kilátónál, útmentii parkolónál is megálltunk, olyan helyeken, amelyek nem szerepeltek az eredeti útleírásban, hogy képeket készíthessünk a tájról.

Our tourgide, Marco was an experienced and merry guy, who knew exactly, how to do a good favor for tourists. Through the journey we have stoped at some lookouts and some roadside parkings, even at places not mentioned in the discription, so we could take photos of the landscape.

A nap egyik fő attrakciója Santana falucska volt. Ebben a falucskában körülbelül három tucat olyan ház található, amelyik még hordozza a régi, paraszti építészet hagyományait, amit a korai portugál telepesek honosítottak meg.

One of the main attractions of the day was the village of Santana. In this village there are about three dozen houses, still carrying the traditions of the old peasant architecture, which was introduced by he early Portuguese settlers.

A visszaindulás előtti utolsó állomásunk a Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto kilátóhely volt, a sziget keleti felén az Atlanti-óceánba hosszan benyúló, keskeny Ponta de São Lourenço félszigeten.

 The last stop before returning to Funchal was the lookout of Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto, on the long and narrow peninsula, intruding into the Atlantic Ocean, Ponta de São Lourenço.
