A tegnap érkező járat egy útitársat szállított a fedélzetén, ez pedig nem volt más, mint Peta, vagyis Volter Etelka, akivel a Mercados dos Lavradores, vagyis a helyi termelői piac bejáratánál találkoztam. A piac azonban vasárnap reggel zárva volt, amire igazán nem számítottunk. Innen az Avenida Arriagán haladtunk végig, ami Funchal legnépszerűbb és egyik leghosszabb utcája. Itt megálltunk Funchal katedrálisánál, valamint a Jardim Municipal do Funchal nevű, botanikuskertre emlékeztető közparknál.
The flight that has arrived last night has carried a new traveling companion, Peta (Etelka Volter), my colleague, with whom I've met at the Mercados dos Lavradores, the local farmers market. Neither of us has calculated, that the market might be closed on Sunday morning, as it was, so we had to continue on Avenida Arriaga, one of Funchal's most popular and also longest streets. A városnéző séta után megálltunk ebédelni, majd buszra szálltunk és először egy ismerős helyen, Camara de Lobosban álltunk meg, majd innen tovább haladtunk az Apácák völgyébe (Curral das Freiras). A völgy a nevét egyes elképzelések szerint az itt letelepedő apácákról kapta, míg egy másik elgondolás szerint a francia kalózok elől ide meneküli apácák voltak a névadók. A völgy és a benne található falu egy mélyen fekvő, kerek medencében helyezkedik el, amiről az idegenvezetőnk azt állította, hogy egy vulkanikus kráter. Abban igaza volt, hogy a környező hegyek vulkanikus eredetűek, de hogy az egész medence egyetlen kráter lenne, az erősen kétséges.
After the sightseeng walk, we have stoped for dinner, and took a tour bus to a familiar place, Camara de Lobos, and after that we have reached the Valley of the Nuns (Curral das Freiras). There are two explanations about the name of the location. The first one is more obvious, and says that the valley is named after the nuns that have owned most of the territory. The second one tells a true story about how nuns came later to seek shelter from the attacks of the French pirates. Maybe the reality is in between somewhere. The village is located in a deep valley, surrounded by mountains. Our guide stated that the valley sits on the bottom of the crater of the volcano, but that is up to some discussion.

A városba visszaérve, kis pihenés után csatlakoztunk a kurzusunk résztvevőihez. Egy közösen elfogyasztott vacsora után visszatértem a szállásra. A holnapi nap már a kurzussal fog kezdődni.
Back to Funchal, afther a little break, we have joind our group at the course. After dining out together, I've returned to the motel. Tomorrow will start with the course begining.
