Madeira CsT Day 09

 Lassan, de biztosan közelítek a madeirai kalandjaim végéhez. Három nap múlva hazautazom. Ma viszont még újra összemértem a lábaimban lakozó erőt Funchal lejtőivel és emelkedőivel. A busz számomra nem igazán lehetőség, mivel az út nehezebbik felét már megteszem, mire az első buszmegállóhoz érek. Noha a Google Map szerint a képzés helye csupán 1,2 kilométerre van a szállásomtól, a terepviszonyok miatt ez kicsit többnek érződik.

Slowly but surely I will reach the end of my adventures here in Madeira, because in three days of time I shall make my return flight. But today I have measured the strength of my legs to Funchal's up slopes and uphills. Taking the bus is not really an option for me, because I'm allready through the hardships of the first half of the road till I reach the first bus stop. The Google Map says that the distance is only 1.2 kilometers, however because of the field conditions it feels to bee a bit more.

A mai nap első harmadában ismét Sérgio előadásait hallgattuk meg, amelyek ezúttal is több témából álltak össze. Mindegyik téma amolyan vitaindító, így szépen blokkonként haladunk előre a tananyaggal. Továbbra is nagyon örülök, hogy ezt a kurzust választottam, mert végre van igazán lehetőségem tanulni és kibontakozni egyszerre. A teljesség igénye nélkül néhány téma, amiket érintettünk:
1) Közlekedés és klímaváltozás.
2) Takarékosság az egyre fogyatkozó erőforrásokkal.
3) Társadalmi problémák, társadalmi egyenlőtlenségek és zöld fordulat a globális kihívások összefügésében.
4) Az egészségtudatos és a környezettudatos magatartás kapcsolata.
5) A sport és a természetközeliség, tájfutás.
6) Élhető városok, zöldebb városok, városi klíma.

In the first third of the day we have again listend to Sérgios great presentation, again consisting of multiple topics. These topics are there to generate a lively debate and exchange of knowledge, opinions, know-hows and experiences, so we can proceed with the educational material. I'm again happy that I took this course, because I can both learn and also unfold mysfelf at the same time. Witouth the regard of the full picture, I'm just mentioning some important topics we have been through:
1) Traffic and climate change.
2) Sparing of the limited resources.
3) Social problems, social inequality ang green change in the perspective of global challanges.
4) Health-conscious and eco-conscious behaviours and their relationship.
5) Sport and beeing close to nature, orienteering.
6) Inhabitable cities, greener cities, urban climate.

Az egyes blokkok elején a vitaindító gyakran egy kisfilm. A tegnapihoz hasonlóan most is belinkelnék egyet, mert bár tartalmilag nem sok új információt hordoz, de szerintem nagyon erős a mondanivalója, és akármelyik a témához kapcsolódó iskolai tanítási órán megállna a helyét felütésként. A rövid klippben Julia Roberts magát a természetet személyesíti meg. Ha valakit érdekel, ezek a videók folytatódnak Harrison Forddal, Robert Redforddal, Liam Neesonnal és más híres színészekkel.

At some of the blocks, there is a short movie to kick-start the debate. Just like yesterday, I'm going to also link one for today. It does not contain much scientific data, yet it's a very powerfull video, that can be used to start a topic in a classroom, in a school. In this short clipp, Julia Roberts takes on the roll to embody Mother Nature herself. If you are interested, this is a series of clips, also with the voice and acting of Harrison Ford, Robert Redford, Liam Neeson and other famous actors.

A nap második harmadában városi terepgyakorlatra került sor, de a klasszikus városnézés helyett ezúttal a földrajzi érdekességekre koncentráltunk. Először egy olyan parkban tanulmányoztunk növényeket, amiben korábban Petával már jártunk, majd a város vízelvezető rendszerét tekintettük meg, ami azt biztosítja, hogy a hegyekből érkező víz ne öntse el a települést. Végül egy olyan partszakaszt tekintettünk meg, ami akkor keletkezett, amikor néhány évvel ezelőtt ez a természeti csapás, amiért nem kis részben a folyamatos emberi beavatkozás is felelős, végül mégis megtörtént. Lehangoló volt hallani, hogy éppen egy olyan területen sétálunk, ahol alattunk akár eltűnt személyek is nyugodhatnak.

In the second third of the day we have followed with a field-trip in the city, but instead of a classic sight-seeing we have concentrated on the geographical content. First we went to a park, to learn about the local flora, which we have allready visited with Peta. Than we have examined the drainage system of the town, which provides Funchal protection from the heavy floads from the mountains. In the end we stopped at a coastline, which have beah created by one of these disastrous floads, partially caused by the ongoing human intervention. It was a schock to learn that we are passing on a freshly formed land where underneath people lost in the fload might rest in their final peace.

Ezt követően elbúcsúztunk a csoporttól és buszra ültünk, hogy némi kacskaringós zötykölődés után megérkezzünk a Madeirai Botanikus Kertbe (Jardim Botanico da Madeira). Itt a trópusi és a szubtrópusi növények lélegzetelállító példányait csodálhattuk meg. Akármerre megyek a szigeten, nehéz eldönteni, hogy mit fotózzak le, illetve mit ne, és mi az, amit ebből meg is kell osztanom. Ez most is igaz volt.

Afthers this we have departed from the group and took a bus up on the serpentines of the mountainside, to reach the Madeira Botanical Garden ((Jardim Botanico da Madeira). Here we had the chance to admire astonishing plants of the tropical and sub-tropical floras. Wherever I go on this island, it's hard to decide what should I photograph, what not to, what to share of my photos, and than again what not to. This was also true to this very same place.

A képeken egy völgyhíd és a völgy felett hosszában végighaladó acélkábeles sikló felvonó látható. Egy botanikus kert a holnapra tervezett programunkban is szerepel, ami kicsit még a mostanihoz képest is magasabban fekszik. Ez a helyszín elérhető a siklóval is, de úgy döntöttünk, hogy nincs kedvünk a dobozban főléshez, ezért inkább maradunk majd a busz mellett / There is a viaduct crossing at the shorters axis of the valley, and a cable care through the longer axis, reaching up until some even greater hights compared to where we were standing. Tomorrow we have decided to go to that location, because there is another famous botanical garden, but we will skip the cable car and go by bus, because of the heath 

Visszaérve a part közelébe felkerestük a híres funchali piacot, amit legutóbb zárva találtunk. Bár a halpiac ilyenkor már szintén zárva van, legalább a többi részét megtekinthettük / Back again, closer to the shore, we have visited the famous market of Funchal again, which was closed last time. The fish market was closing again, because it's mainly open in the morning, but the rest we could admire

Az estebéd elfogyasztása után visszafelé még egy kis városnézésre is jutott időm. Út közben leginkább azzal próbáltam tanulmányozni a városi klímát, hogy a fák árnyékában haladtam / After having our lunch for dinner, on the way back I still had time for a little city tour. While doing so, I was experimenting with the urban climate by staying in the shadows of the trees for as long as possible
