Harmadik nap

Reggel szokás szerint 8 előtt 10 perccel belejtettem az étterembe. Eddig is voltak néhányan, akik korábban jöttek, mire én mentem, már néhányan ott voltak. Erre a pincér megjegyezte, hogy 8-tól van reggeli. Mondtam, az túl későn van ahhoz, hogy elérjem a kurzus kezdetét. Egyébként tényleg nem voltam még olyan helyen, ahol legkésőbb 7-től ne lehetett volna reggelizni… Itt viszont a többi szállodában is 8-tól lehet. Furcsa.

A kurzuselőadás ma is nagyon jó volt. Utána kimentünk a városba, ahol Sérgio a gyakorlatban is megmutatta, hogy mi is a dinamikája a levegőmozgásnak. A partról nagyon szemléletes volt, ahogy mindent elmagyarázott.

Közben beszélt egy 2010-es tragédiáról, amikor egy vihar olyan mértékű villámárvizet és földcsuszamlást okozott, ami az utóbbi száz év legnagyobb tragédiája Madeirán. hatszáz ember veszítette el otthonát, legalább negyvenen meghaltak, kilenc személyt mind a mai napig eltűntnek nyilvánítottak. Olyan mennyiségű földet és sziklákat sodort magával a víz, hogy az újjáépítéskor a sziget összes munkagépét, teherautóját be kellett vonni, a lezúdult anyagot a parton egy helyre összehordták. Évekig úgy hagyták, majd döntött a kormány, hogy ezzel feltöltik az óceánpartnak azt a részét, ahova összehordták, itt a kikötő egy részt, valamint egy sétányt alakítottak ki. A hasonló tragédiák elkerülése, vagy legalábbis a károk enyhítésére a hegyoldalból lejövő két csatornát kiszélesítették, kiegyenesítették, hogy könnyebbel le tudjon folyni a víz.

A közös program után Tamással felmentünk Madeira egyik botanikus kertjébe, a Jardim Botanico da Madeira-ba. Bár térképet nézve a botanikus kert Funchal központjától 3 km-re van, ami nem tűnik soknak, viszont a 3 km-en 300 méter szintemelkedés van fölfelé. Tehát gyalog is fel lehet menni, de szerintem én abba ma belehaltam volna. Így aztán buszra ültünk, ami pontosan a bejáratnál tett le minket. Mivel a kert is a hegyoldalban van, és 150 méter a szintkülönbség, azért a hegymászás nem maradt ki. Itt található az a gyönyörű, színes szőnyegre hasonlító virágágyás, ami minden évben más és más, a mintázatot az adja, hogy különböző a színe az ültetett virágok levelének. Van benne egy írás is: fölül a botanikus kert neve van kiírva (Jardim Botanico da Madeira), utána az alapító neve (Eng. Rui Vieira), alul pedig két évszám: 1960 - 2024. 

A kertben természetesen elsősorban trópusi növényekkel találkozhatunk, de minden kontinensről telepítettek növényeket, melyek száma meghaladja a 2500-at. A növények között sok egzotikus madár is él. Sok olyan virágot is láthatunk, ami az egész szigeten hatalmas tömegekben elterjedt. Rengeteg hatalmas méretű kaktusz különböző agavék, hibiszkuszok, mályvacserjék, felsorolni is lehetetlen.

Madeira tipikus vidéki háza a „casa de colmo”, ami egy zsúpfedeles, "A" betűre hasonlító házikó. Itt, a botanikus kertben is található egy. Több helyen kiépített kilátópont, ahonnan fenséges látványban lehet része a földi halandónak.

Hazafelé még benéztünk a termelői piacra, majd egy késői ebéddel (vagy korai vacsorával) fejeztük be a napot.

 

Third day

In the morning, as usual, I dropped into the restaurant 10 minutes before 8. Until now, there were some people who came earlier, by the time I went, some were already there. I said it was too late to make it to the start of the course. you really won't come back to a place where you couldn't have breakfast from 7 at the latest... But here, in the other hotels, you can have it from 8. Strange.

The course lecture was very good today. Afterwards, we went out into the city, where Sérgio showed us the dynamics of air movement in practice. From the shore, he was very insightful in how he explained everything.

In the meantime, he spoke about a tragedy in 2010, when a storm caused such a flash flood and landslide that it was the biggest tragedy in Madeira in the last hundred years. six hundred people lost their homes, at least forty people died, nine people are still declared missing. The water swept away such a quantity of earth and rocks that during the reconstruction, all the machines and trucks of the island had to be brought in, and the washed-up material was carried to one place on the shore. They left it as it was for years, and then the government decided to fill up the part of the ocean coast where it was brought together, a part of the harbor and a promenade were created here. To avoid similar tragedies, or at least to mitigate the damage, the two channels coming down from the mountainside were widened and straightened so that the water could flow down more easily.

After the joint program, Tamas and I went up to one of Madeira's botanical gardens, the Jardim Botanico da Madeira. Although looking at the map, the botanical garden is 3 km from the center of Funchal, which doesn't seem like much, but there is a 300 meter elevation gain in the 3 km. So you can also go up on foot, but I think I would have died today. So we got on a bus that dropped us right at the entrance. Since the garden is also on the side of the mountain, and the difference in level is 150 meters, climbing was not left out. Here you can find the beautiful, colorful carpet-like flower bed, which is different every year, the pattern is given by the different color of the leaves of the planted flowers. It also has an inscription: the name of the botanical garden is written above (Jardim Botanico da Madeira), followed by the name of the founder (Eng. Rui Vieira), and two years below: 1960 - 2024. In the garden, of course, you can find mainly tropical plants, but everything plants were planted from the continent, the number of which exceeds 2,500. Many exotic birds also live among the plants. We can also see many flowers that spread in huge masses all over the island. Lots of huge cacti, various agaves, hibiscus, mallow bushes, it's impossible to list them all.

A typical country house in Madeira is the "casa de colmo", which is a thatched cottage resembling the letter "A". There is also one here in the botanical garden. Viewpoints built in several places, from which earthly mortals can enjoy a majestic view.

On the way home, we visited the farmer's market and ended the day with a late lunch (or early dinner).
